fusion_global=”405″]p>Emergency lighting is most commonly seen in escape routes, where it is required to provide a minimum level of lighting to aid safe exit when the normal lighting fails.

It should also be installed to provide general area lighting in open plan offices and warehouses, again to aid safe exit. Other important locations for emergency lighting are lift motor rooms, commercial kitchens, Coldrooms, Plant Rooms, or where a process involves a specific risk to operators (Factories), as well as in areas where there is no natural or ambient light (e.g. enclosed stairwells) and over safety equipment (fire alarm panels, first aid points).

Covered by BS5266, all emergency lighting schemes must also meet IEE wiring regulations to BS7671 and Electric Technics Ltd are qualified to undertake this work.

Emergency lighting systems are classified as ‘maintained’ where one fitting provides both normal and emergency lighting and ‘non-maintained’ which provide emergency light alone.

Increasingly, LED emergency lighting is becoming popular due to its low energy consumption and low cost of ownership – a move that has also been driven by the move to low voltage and addressable lighting systems. At Electric Technics Ltd, we can design, install and maintain lighting systems of all types and in all buildings.

Non-Maintained Emergency Lighting

Non-maintained emergency lighting is designed to operate only when the normal lighting supply fails, providing suitable illumination in the event of a fire. These units serve a single purpose and as such are a basic lighting solution. Our range includes a number of design options from basic units to more decorative and even recessed ones. Non-maintained lighting is required to supplement existing lighting installations where an emergency lighting requirement is identified.

Maintained Emergency Lighting

Maintained emergency light fittings serve a dual purpose, providing both normal and emergency lighting.

With normal and emergency lighting in the same fitting, the overall number of fittings installed is reduced and aesthetic appearance can be improved. The units range from simple polycarbonate enclosures to custom made architectural light fittings, with matching mains-only units being available for a wide range of looks. They are required to illuminate exit signs when buildings are in use and are commonly used in office lighting, reception areas, external exit routes, garages and other places with general area lighting requirements.

LED fittings

Low energy LED emergency light fittings are now available across the range, offering lower lifetime costs with reduced battery capacities and no lamp replacements.

As Mentioned above, It is possible to carry out testing manually but this can be expensive and time consuming and accurate record keeping difficult to arrange. Electric Technics Ltd Install  programmable addressable lighting systems that will automatically test and monitor the emergency lighting system and produce accurate reports of test results and system events. The System ensures building owners and occupiers are informed promptly of any problems affecting the emergency lighting system and as the system can be networked and remotely accessed, off-site monitoring also becomes an option.(Insert  em1.png)
